Safety

OR4G members make every effort to ensure the safety of vehicles and occupants at all times.

Any activity involving off road travel in a 4WD vehicle carries a degree of risk, both to the vehicle and its occupants. OR4G members make every effort to ensure the safety of vehicles and occupants at all times. However we cannot accept any responsibility for damage to vehicles or personal injury.

Every driver and passenger over the age of 16 is required to sign a disclaimer form prior to travel on any club trip. The ultimate responsibility for vehicle and personal safety will always remain with the driver of each the vehicle. We actively encourage a ‘tread lightly’ philosophy for all our trips and endeavour to never cause damage to tracks, property, or the environment.

All vehicles being used on OR4G organised and sanctioned trips is required to have a current warrant of fitness and have been passed by the Club safety Officer as being ‘fit for purpose’ and having safe and suitable recovery points etc.

OR4G Safety requirements are those set by the New Zealand Four Wheel Drive Association (NZFWDA). We are happy to provide any advice or assistance to new members wishing to set their vehicle up to meet the requirements. OR4G, by being a member of the NZFWDA, provides members with public liability insurance on all club sanctioned and organised trips. Personal vehicle insurance is not provided and is a personal responsibility.

Recovery rope is available through the group at a discounted price.

There is required equipment that needs to be carried and there is some equipment that is optional. Please discuss with members or the safety officer to gain further clarity. We are happy to provide any advice or assistance to new members wishing to set their vehicle up to meet the requirements.
